New Steam Games Playable on the Steam Deck, with Order of the Sinking Star and Silver Pines - 2026-10-10 Edition

By

Between 2026-10-03 and 2026-10-10 we selected 9 newly released games that are rated as Verified or Playable on the Steam Deck, and meeting specific criteria in terms of user ratings. A lot of good stuff in this week, with the latest game from Jonathan Blow (known for Braid and Witness), Order of the Sinking Star. If you like puzzles you’ll be served a bunch with that one! For my part I’d go wityh Silver Pines, an action-adventure game taking a bunch of inspiration from Silent Hill and Lynch in general. Seems extremely well made.

Full details below.

CYBERFRAGS ’69 (Free Game)

Released on 7 Oct, 2026, developed by D.A.S. Games, self-published. [Steam Store Page]

Genre: Action, Free To Play

Steam Deck Rating: Playable

User Reviews: 99 % Positive (out of 105 total reviews)

About the game: Move fast and shoot fast in Cyberfrags ’69. Double jump, wall-run, and blast your way to victory in intense PvP and Co-Op, or play as Cyber-Frank as he slaughters the Cyber-Nazis invading his home!

Steam Reviews Summary: Players consistently compare it to a “Titanfall + Quake” lovechild, praising how well the insane speed actually works with everything from weapons to maps. The movement (double jump, wall run, slide) feels fluid and responsive out of the box, and the sheer number of unique guns each with an alt-fire mode gets called out as way more than you’d expect for a free title. The solo dev is widely praised as incredibly active in the Discord, shipping near-daily updates and genuinely listening to feedback. Minor gripes: the single-player campaign is short and some find the AI basic, multiplayer servers can be dead at times so joining the Discord helps, a few smaller maps kill your momentum with tight walls, wall climbing feel inconsistent, and gun balance in SP leaves several weapons outclassed. Great value as a free game if you like fast movement shooters.

SILVER PINES

Released on 8 Oct, 2026, developed by Wych Elm and published by Team17. [Steam Store Page]

Genre: Action, Adventure, Indie, RPG

Steam Deck Rating: Verified

User Reviews: 97.9 % Positive (out of 188 total reviews)

About the game: Silver Pines is a survival horror metroidvania set in small town America. Fight nightmarish terrors and solve puzzles, while carefully managing your scarce resources as you uncover the mysteries that could hold the key to redemption.

Steam Reviews Summary: The dominant comparison across reviews is “Silent Hill + Twin Peaks + Alan Wake in 2D,” and most players say it nails all three perfectly. Atmosphere, art style, music/sound design, and voice acting are the standout praise points; reviewers describe feeling genuinely scared (one said they would not play at night) while also being deeply drawn into the mystery story. Combat is chunky and satisfying with scarce ammo keeping tension high without making it feel punishing, puzzles reward exploration without being overly hard, and a handy camera/snapshot-to-map system helps you navigate the metroidvania layout. Minor gripes: one soft-lock bug at launch cost someone 3 hours of progress (likely patched), melee weapons degrading after a few swings feels annoying during boss fights given limited ammo, and one dissenting review felt the pastiche elements lacked enough “glue” to cohere into something greater than its parts. One reviewer confirmed it runs great on Steam Deck.

ORDER OF THE SINKING STAR

Released on Oct 8, 2026, developed by Thekla, Inc. and published by Arc Games, . [Steam Store Page]

Genre: Adventure, Indie, Strategy

Steam Deck Rating: Verified

User Reviews: 97.5 % Positive (out of 644 total reviews)

About the game: From director Jonathan Blow (Braid, The Witness), Order of the Sinking Star is a massive puzzle adventure set in a realm of magic and enigma. Solve over 1000 interconnected, hand-crafted puzzles, discover unique playable heroes, master evolving gameplay mechanics, and decipher a grand mystery.

Steam Reviews Summary: Enthusiasm is off the charts from day one, with multiple reviewers calling it an easy Game of the Year contender after only a few hours in. The puzzles are described as gorgeous, deeply layered, and constantly evolving; each new mechanic builds on previous ones so later levels feel like four puzzle games fused together. Art direction, sound design, voice acting (especially the Thief and Sailor characters), and the non-linear overworld structure all get high marks. It runs surprisingly well even on older hardware thanks to Thekla’s custom Jai language/engine. Main complaint across several reviews: performance in the overworld map view can stutter or drop frames at higher settings, particularly noticeable when zoomed out. On Steam Deck specifically, two reviewers noted it is laggy on high quality but smooth as silk on lower presets; one hoped post-launch patches would target that. A couple of minor launch hiccups (one startup crash) were reported but nothing widespread.

AFTERBEAT (PROJECT ARRHYTHMIA)

Released on 8 Oct, 2026, developed by Vitamin Games and published by Kwalee, . [Steam Store Page]

Genre: Action, Adventure, Indie, Strategy

Steam Deck Rating: Playable

User Reviews: 96.2 % Positive (out of 1748 total reviews)

About the game: A musical bullet-hell where all things beautiful are deadly. Dodge well little nanobot, you don’t have much time.

Steam Reviews Summary: The single most repeated comparison is “Just Shapes and Beats on crack,” and fans of that genre clearly love it here. The new story mode (long requested) is well received with some genuinely tough final songs, the visuals do cool things for a 2D bullet-hell, and the Steam Workshop full of custom levels gives it effectively infinite content beyond the official campaign. Community has been running this game for years so there’s an established player base to check out. Minor gripes: still somewhat CPU-intensive on lower-end machines (though much improved over its EA days), a softlock was reported in Act 3 intro at launch, and some long-time players note the official content is thin compared to what the community has built. A few want an attempt/death counter for one-life modes.

NEON ABYSS 2

Released on 7 окт. 2026 г., developed by Veewo Games and published by Veewo Games, . [Steam Store Page]

Genre: Action, Adventure, Indie, RPG

Steam Deck Rating: Verified

User Reviews: 87.8% Positive (out of 426 total reviews)

About the game: Dive into the chaos of cyber-myths in Neon Abyss 2! Now with online co-op for up to 4 players, new combat styles, and endless item synergies, each run delivers unforgettable action.

Steam Reviews Summary: The overall picture is a solid roguelite sequel that improves on NA1 in most ways but still has rough edges. Positives: weapon crafting/recycling adds real build depth beyond pure RNG, you can read item descriptions before picking them up (a huge QoL win), tons of new weapons and bosses, 4-player online co-op works well, difficulty is adjustable so casuals are welcome too, and the dev team has been visibly listening to feedback since EA started. Builds get absurdly powerful fast; one reviewer nearly crashed the game engine with a projectile-spam setup they called “the sign of a good roguelite.” Negatives cluster around: bugs (a room-lock softlock that wiped an hour+ of progress, auto-aim settings silently re-enabling mid-run) not getting patched quickly enough to satisfy some players, UI feeling cluttered and overwhelming with full-screen item banners blocking your view, too many visual effects late-game making enemies hard to spot, a few recycled assets from NA1 mixed in with the new art creating slight inconsistency, no story mode this time (which some missed), and enemy variety still lacking. Verdict: worth it if you liked NA1 and want more content; not for those who found the first game’s core loop unpolished since that foundation is largely intact.

TOY SHIRE

Released on 6 Oct, 2026, developed by Bluespy Studios and published by Catoptric Games. [Steam Store Page]

Genre: Action, Strategy

Steam Deck Rating: Playable

User Reviews: 84.7 % Positive (out of 216 total reviews)

About the game: Are you prepared for a thrilling toy army tower defense adventure? Welcome to the Toy Shire! Battle diverse foes in various locations, defend your family, and repel foes from your area. Save the world by strengthening your defense with toy towers!

Steam Reviews Summary: Fans of tower defense are calling this one of their new favorites in the genre. The toy-soldier aesthetic is charming and well-executed (reviewers compare it to nostalgic green army men), level design with multiple paths feels fresh, difficulty ramps up nicely so early ease does not carry through forever, and there’s a creative/sandbox mode plus an infinite mode for endless replay value. A speed-up option for impatient players was specifically praised. Minor gripes: tower targeting priority can be buggy (towers ignore your set target order), some enemies like the bats are too tanky with limited anti-air options, star/currency economy feels tight so you cannot upgrade much per wave, scene interaction is lighter than Kingdom Rush (no map easter eggs or dynamic events yet), and one reviewer complained about a long update gap before release.

STAR WARS: GALACTIC RACER™

Released on 6 Oct, 2026, developed by Fuse Games and published by Secret Mode. [Steam Store Page]

Genre: Action, Adventure, Racing, Simulation, Sports

Steam Deck Rating: Verified

User Reviews: 82.4 % Positive (out of 2307 total reviews)

About the game: STAR WARS: Galactic Racer™ is a runs-based, high-stakes reinvention of racing born in the lawless Outer Rim. With the Empire gone and the galaxy rebuilding, The Galactic League is created: an underground, unsanctioned circuit where syndicates bankroll chaos and champions are forged.

Steam Reviews Summary: Those who love arcade racing at breakneck speed are absolutely thrilled; comparisons to Burnout takedowns + Wipeout/F-Zero handling + Episode 1 Racer nostalgia come up constantly, and the UE5 visuals plus sound design (engine roars, racer banter) get called a “love letter to Star Wars.” The roguelite campaign structure where losing parts/lives adds real stakes is seen as perfect for the genre. Multiple vehicle classes each with distinct feel keep things varied. Runs great on Steam Deck: one reviewer confirmed 60fps at low + XESS quality, and it also runs well on a Steam Machine at 1440p high with FSR. The big recurring complaint driving negative reviews is the complete absence of key rebinding; several players (some citing accessibility needs) called this unacceptable for a $60 title in 2026 and refunded immediately. Other gripes: no solo quick race or custom match mode at launch, pod racing feels somewhat sidelined compared to other vehicle types with only ~6 of the original roster included, rubber-band AI can be too strong on higher difficulties, and track visibility (especially night races) is poor for some. A few also flagged the loud ramjet alarm sound as fatiguing over long sessions.

FOREVER AGO

Released on 8 Oct, 2026, developed by Third Shift and published by Annapurna Interactive. [Steam Store Page]

Genre: Adventure, Indie

Steam Deck Rating: Verified

User Reviews: 93.9 % Positive (out of 33 total reviews)

About the game: Following a tragic stroke of fate, Alfred embarks on a journey north in search of redemption in this single-player road trip adventure.

Steam Reviews Summary: A short (roughly 3 to 4 hour) but deeply emotional experience that reviewers describe as bittersweet, beautiful, and heart-warming. The atmosphere and soundtrack carry the story about grief, hope, and friendship; multiple players said they were moved to tears or spent hours without noticing time passing. It is clearly a narrative-first game with light interactive moments rather than heavy gameplay. One negative review found it too passive (“just watching a video”) if you are looking for active mechanics, which sets the right expectation: this is an immersive story experience more than a traditional adventure. A tiny QoL note about a missing quit button in the main menu was mentioned but nobody seemed to care much since they did not want to stop playing anyway.

PAPERHEAD

Released on 9 Oct, 2026, developed by Paperhead te4m and published by HypeTrain Digital. [Steam Store Page]

Genre: Action, Indie

Steam Deck Rating: Verified

User Reviews: 93.3 % Positive (out of 45 total reviews)

About the game: In the cute cardboard world, something went horribly wrong… Use the magical pencil, a good old shotgun, and various other weapons as well as the strength of your mighty boots, to uncover the dark truth and find out WHY WOULD CARDBOARD… BLEED?

Steam Reviews Summary: The go-to comparison is “Ultrakill meets Binding of Isaac in a cardboard world,” and fans of fast movement shooters are clearly loving it. B-hopping, wall sliding, and aerial control make the movement feel like a speedrunner’s dream; weapons each have a distinct purpose and hit with satisfying punch. The 3D cardboard art style is called unique and charming (with “bleeding” enemies adding dark humor), the soundtrack gets its own praise wave, hidden secrets in every level reward exploration, and there is solid lore to dig into via an in-game bestiary/map. Minor gripes: some launch-day performance/lag issues on certain PCs even at lower settings (likely patchable), no mixed keyboard+controller input support which causes camera flicker if you try both simultaneously, the pencil mechanic feels underutilized beyond a few story interactions, roughly 60% of skill tree nodes are called useless filler by one detailed reviewer, levels can feel long and confusing with backtracking for secrets, and difficulty is punishing if you are not comfortable with fast-paced combat. One Steam Deck player reported good visuals at 1080p max but average FPS below 60. Expected to hit 90+ at native resolution after patches.
