New Steam Games Playable on the Steam Deck, with Sol Cesto and People of Note - 2026-04-11 Edition

Between 2026-04-04 and 2026-04-11 we selected 10 newly released games that are rated as Verified or Playable on the Steam Deck, and meeting specific criteria in terms of user ratings. It’s a good week for releases, with Sol Cesto being a great roguelite game where you direct your heroes against impossible odds. It has a very unique art style. There’s also People of Note from Annapurna which looks like a delightful mix of turn-based RPG and a musical. Here’s the whole list below.

Island of Hearts - Review

Island of Hearts is a lackluster dating FMV, developed by Titan Digital Media and 4Divinity (who is also the publisher). It did work on Steam Deck with a few caveats, but I only got a black screen on CachyOS. FMV (full-motion video) games have popping-up on my Steam suggestions for a while. Some appears to have the production value of Netflix series, and mixing styles and genres with plenty of minigames. I don’t think I saw anything released recently be close to Black Dahlia, a game I am fond from my early adult life, but some games do try. Island of Hearts is not like that, neither tries to be. It is straightforward: you watch a video, pick a choice and watch the next video, with some minigames sparsely sprinkled here and there without a deep story. I am not an expert on FMV dating-sim, but it seems most of them on Steam follows the same formula. Well, Island of Hearts tries to set up a story early on, before you are dumped into drama island, but not enough to get you that interested. Sadly, every single game design decision made me lose my suspension of disbelief: lack of choices, rough cuts in video edits, and shallow and uncanny stories. The protagonist in unhinged, unstable, both in how he reacts and the options you have available to pick. It was hard to picture him in my mind, as he would act like an entirely different person at each scene. And it makes it quite annoying that you play in first person because now you are the crazy one.

New Steam Games Playable on the Steam Deck, with Super Meat Boy 3D - 2026-04-04 Edition

Between 2026-03-28 and 2026-04-04 we selected 14 newly released games that are rated as Verified or Playable on the Steam Deck, and meeting specific criteria in terms of user ratings. The most well known release is going to be the sequel to Super Meat Boy, Super Meat Boy 3D - if you are not familiar with the genre, it’s a platformer where you have to reach the end of every level without making a mistake, amidst deadly machines and obstacles on every path of the way. Typically extremely hard and punishing, but very rewarding if you are persistent. But there’s a lot more to feed your Steam Deck with. Have a look:

There’s the sequel of the old yet excellent Sprintrunners called Sprint City that’s out! And in a completely different genre, you get Lakehopper that turns you in the role of boih a plane pilot and a mechanic - where you have to take care of your plane in between flights. Fantastic idea.
Planet of Lana II - Review

This game is a sequel to the original Planet of Lana that came out in 2023 and that I did not know of until now. If you are like me, don’t worry, you could still play the sequel as is, since it features an introduction that tells the events of the first game in a few minutes. I’m not going to spoil things for you in case you want to do the first one before this sequel. The first game is apparently a fairly short game that can be completed in 7 to 8 hours. This second one lasts about the same, too. The scene takes place on another planet, where two factions are at war and you are caught in the middle.

CachyOS Is Now the Most Popular Desktop Distro on ProtonDB

It’s been a few months now since our last update and as you’ve seen from the headline, this is a huge milestone. CachyOS has taken over the 1st spot on ProtonDB for desktop distros, dethroning Arch Linux which was in the first spot, flawlessly since late 2021. This kind of change has never happened before, and CachyOS’s progression is impressive, gaining share month after month without sign of stagnation. We had already seen signs that it would be cannibalizaing Arch in the end of 2025, but I seriously did not expect it to pass Arch so quickly. CachyOS gets recommended pretty much everywhere nowadays, so the word of mouth effect is working very well. Before we take a look at the chart, the usual disclaimer: - This may not be representative of all types of Linux users. I’m sure this is not what your AWS architect uses on EC2.

Packing Life - The Amazon Warehouse Experience - Review

Pack products in Packing Life, a capitalist hellscape puzzle sim developed and published by Aroko Game Studio. This native game runs great on PCs running Linux (tested on CachyOS) and Steam Deck, without needing Proton. You can see a video of the gameplay I captured, without commentary (but you can pinpoint the moments of internal screaming and desperation!). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xxkuj9PDtv8 I went in for the cozy and relaxing atmosphere that the store page demonstrates. And don’t get me wrong, the game delivers that. But then I made the mistake to play the timed mode, and the game flipped upside down.

Between 2026-02-28 and 2026-03-07 we selected 21 newly released games that are rated as Verified or Playable on the Steam Deck, and meeting specific criteria in terms of user ratings. Among the huge number of games that are now playable on the Steam Deck, one of everyone’s favorites is likely to be Slay the Spire 2 following the huge success of the first opus. And there’s Esoteric Ebb, the game that was best described by one Steam commenter: > This game is a successor to Planescape Torment and Disco Elysium.
Between 2026-02-21 and 2026-02-28 we selected 4 newly released games that are rated as Verified or Playable on the Steam Deck, and meeting specific criteria in terms of user ratings. Only a few games, and something amusing is that there’s some recurring theme about mountains. I guess too many people must have watched Free Solo in the past few years and now we are getting an avalanche of games related to mountain and mountain climbing, such as Cairn a few weeks earlier. For me the highlight of this week is the game LAYSARA which is a mix of city builder and careful planning and monitoring of logistics, which is something not often seen in this kind of genre.
Emudevz: a Game about Making an Emulator - Review

I always keep an eye on Eki’s weekly publication of new releases playable on Steam Deck, and with Native Linux Builds as I can find some gems there. If there is a demo I often try it. The game I write today, EmuDevz, is a free game from one of Eki’s lists. Well, even better, the dev also released it as open source. This game starts with that Zachtronics vibes, a mix of puzzles, story and teaching you about something. In this case, a futuristic post-apocalyptic world where you try to put together an emulator based on recent archaeological discover. NEEES, a fictitious console based on the real life homonym. You have a partially functioning emulator, but ROMs are glitching because it is incomplete. So you go around fixing CPU, PPU, memory access, and controller modules until you can make them playable.

Steam Next Fest (Feb 2026 Edition) is in

It’s time for yet another Steam Next Fest! Once in a while, Steam throws this event to raise awareness about the upcoming games. My favourite part: the demos. You can try a bunch of them. Here are some you might want to try. This time was a bit easier to do the homework because we discovered a not so hidden Steam press release of the games. The only downside is that not all demos are ready before the Next Fest day, so we could not test games that sound cool on the paper, like Carry the Patient Together (I hope they add a local co-op mode). The problem with Generative AI still haunts Steam, and it appears that players are rigorous about it, at least being disclosed on the store page.

Better to Skip a Year for PC Upgrades?

For decades, it’s been the same ritual: PC gamers religiously expect new shiny hardware to show up, year after year, with more RAM, more storage, better specs, beefier GPUs, and so on. And for a very long time, the market has almost always obliged. While there were years where the progress was certainly slowing down, on average you could count on being able to buy something better for the same price the next year. Our latest survey shows that 2026 may be reversing that trend. Faced with AI-driven markets that have sent GPUs, RAM, and storage prices soaring, most aren’t just hesitant to buy—they’re actively pushing back. With the rising prices of different parts of PC hardware, how do you consider your options in 2026?

Between 2026-02-14 and 2026-02-21 we selected 10 newly released games that are rated as Verified or Playable on the Steam Deck, and meeting specific criteria in terms of user ratings. A lot of good titles this time - February is turning out to be an excellent month so far. Super Battle Golf looks super fun: imaging a party action game where you can shoot other players while you are all trying to put balls in the holes. Demon Tides looks like a super fun 3D platformer (and we don’t have many of them these days). And another great 2D Zelda-like game, Under the Island, completes the picture in yet another genre.
Lattepanda Iota SBC Review: The Intel N150 Shines

We’ve been reviewing a bunch of SBC in the past couple of years, starting with a focus on the Risc-V architecture, before going to ARM64 and now are back full circle with the Lattepanda Iota SBC which is Intel based (we still have more reviews coming up). Size-wise, it follows the credit-card standard proposed by the original Raspberry Pi, and still retains GPIO headers. It is based on the Intel N150 processor with 4 Cores/4 Threads (no hyperthreading - which is similar to what we find on ARM). We were provided a review unit by Lattepanda for this review (the 8GB RAM version) - just because we were very interested to have a final say on this important question: around the same price point, what can you expect from an ARM64 SBC and Intel-based SBCs in 2026? Any clear winner?

Mewgenics is a crazy game from The Binding of Isaac with breeding tactics and cats, Reanimal seems to be a great entry in the Limbo genre of games as well, with co-op mode.
Between 2026-01-31 and 2026-02-07 we selected 10 newly released games that are rated as Verified or Playable on the Steam Deck, and meeting specific criteria in terms of user ratings. There’s a lot of good stuff already, not necessarily game of the year material, but very solid releases nonetheless. There’s Jackal that takes the concept of Hotline Miami and puts it on steroids with a very fun gameplay. In a totally different genre, the Dark Rites of Arkham, translate the Lovecraftian horror novel genre to a point’n click adventure successfully. Both of them are relatively short games, by the way. This time there was a LOT of junk like you would not believe, but I managed to save a few gems from the trash, such as Tearscape which mixes the 8 bit Zelda style with a Souls-like gameplay! Probably a first. Here’s the whole list of things to check:

Bodycam: Review

Remember back in 2023, the game Unrecord that made the rounds with a trailer that was extremely realistic for a first person shooter? Well, it got fully funded in december 2025 and now the devs behind the game are working full steam ahead for a release in the near future. But looks like they are pretty late, since in the meantime I guess some other developers from France (Reissad Studio) were either inspired or already working with something similar, which is what we will review today: Bodycam. I’m not the only person who actually at first confused both titles. The face blurring effect (with mosaic over the face) is also pretty much the same in both games, which added to the confusion. If you are wondering what kind of game it is, here’s a quick video to give you an idea - this is running on the Framework Desktop, with OBS running the background to record the stream. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhIO_ueNWtE

Civ6 Running on the OrangePi 6 Plus (with Box64 and Proton), and more!

So as you know, when I was trying the OrangePi 6 Plus on the official Debian distribution previously, I could not manage to run Steam using Box64. So this time again, using the new Ubuntu 24.04 Distro for the OrangePi 6 Plus, released by OrangePi at the end of December 2025, I tried my luck again and compiled Box64 again.

Shuten Order: Happy New End? Review

Here comes yet another Visual Novel from Spike Chunsoft, the studio mostly famous for the Danganronpa series. I reviewed not too long ago Rain Code, which was another nice entry in their line-up. I can see you guys already rolling your eyes “oh no, yet another Visual Novel!” and I can understand the feeling. But this one is a little different and tries to shift the expectations of the genre. Instead of giving you a linear storyline that you have to follow, it’s divided in 5 parts, and each part is a distinct type of game. But before going there, let me explain how the story starts. Feel free to skip it, but it’s hardly a spoiler since this is litterally how things start in the first few minutes.

Here’s our whole selection below:

For reference, during the same time, there were 536 games released for Windows on Steam, so the Linux versions represent about 8.2 % of total released titles. A pretty good week overall, with the highlight being Project Gorgon, a MMORPG that looks like ass, but is made by folks behind Asheron’s Call and has a surprising amount of depth. Here’s a full list of the titles you ought to consider:

Nvidia Releases a Geforce NOW app for Linux systems

Nvidia has just released a native Linux application to benefit from its Geforce NOW streaming service. Previously it was possible to connect to their service using a regular browser, but this native app (in beta) makes things much easier and lets you access better settings to run your games, if you have a sufficiently fast connection. You don’t purchase games on GeForce NOW, you purchase a service to stream the games you already own on Steam, GOG, or Epic Games Store, as long as the said game is supported by GeForce NOW. You are asked to connect your store accounts in order to confirm that you actually own said games, which is done by a token exchange between the Nvidia platform and the stores of your choice. In my case, while I have more than a thousand games on Steam, only about 340 were confirmed to be compatible with GeForce NOW. Not bad, but still far from a full catalog kind of thing. By default you have access to a free account that lets you stream games up to 1080p, and that is ad-supported. If you want to have better settings (high resolution, less wait times, no ads, and Ray Tracing support), you need to pay for the service. So effectively you pay for the quality of streaming, and accessing your games remotely, not for the games themselves. This is a great option if you are on the go with a laptop without a powerful GPU, for example.

Box64 Expands into Risc-V and LoongArch territory

Box64 is still alive and well, as one of the key piece of software that can enable the translation of X86 and X86_64 code to other hardware architectures in real time. We have covered it many times, and it is often used out there to run Steam and GOG games on ARM64 devices. But this is not only about ARM architecture. RISC-V is also supported, and very recently there is a lot of progress on the LoongArch architecture.

New Steam Games with Native Linux Clients, including Hungry Horrors - 2026-01-21 Edition

Between 2026-01-14 and 2026-01-21 there were 56 New Steam games released with Native Linux clients. For reference, during the same time, there were 605 games released for Windows on Steam, so the Linux versions represent about 9.3 % of total released titles. This week there’s a lot of stuff, but not all of it is exceptional. This being said, I did find Hungry Horrors to be a great concept: you have to feed famous folkore monsters, and if you fail you end up being their next meal. All of this roguelite elements. Sounds pretty fun and the trailer is very entertaining. Here’s a quick pick of the whole selection for the past week:

Steam Machine: Not so Hot if priced at 1000 USD

So a couple of weeks ago, someone on X found that Alza, one of the largest retailers in the Czech Republic, had some placeholder prices for the Steam Machine on their website. The price in there, VAT included, was indicated to be 29 990 Czech Koruna, which is equivalent to 1430 USD at the time of writing. Of course, this price is purely speculative, and short of an announcement from Valve we have no idea if this is fantasy or close to the real pricing of the Steam Machine. But it now gives us an anchor to work with. And it may not be as strange as it sounds in a computer market where all components are getting more and more expensive all of a sudden. What if the Steam Machine ends up being priced at 1000 USD and more? That was the perfect time to do a new poll with our followers on the Fediverse (Mastodon).

New Steam Games Playable on the Steam Deck, with Oddcore and Rising Front - 2026-01-10 Edition

Between 2026-01-03 and 2026-01-10 we selected 6 newly released games that are rated as Verified or Playable on the Steam Deck, and meeting specific criteria in terms of user ratings. This is a very good weak opening the year, with Oddcore (Verified) as a cool new take on the Roguelite FPS, limiting the exploration of the game in chunks of 5 minutes only, before crashing and letting you restart again. In a totally different style, you also get Rising Front, a WW1 multiplayer shooter with hundreds of units battling at the same time, with very good performance (Verified on Deck).
Duck Detective: The Ghost of Glamping - Review

I had not played the previous game, The Cost of Salami, so I jumped into this adventure game without prior experience and expectations. It’s a fairly straightforward game. You play as the Duck Detective and you have to solve mysteries, find culprits, and decide who goes to jail in the end! It’s a 2D game, with a cartoon look, and all characters appear as flat elements who jump around over an isometric background.
