Top 1000 Games on Steam: 71% Working on the Steam Deck in May 2025
Ever wondered if the compatibility on the Steam Deck has changed over time? We have done this kind of assessment a few times, and the last time was in August 2024.
It’s been 9 months since the last time we looked at the stats. Do you expect any progress as the landscape of Top 1000 games is constantly changing?
Top 1000 Games and Steam Deck in May 2025
The latest data refreshed on the 26th of May 2025 gives us the following stats:
- Steam Deck Verified Games: 238 (23.8 %)
- Steam Deck Playable Games: 475 (47.5 %)
- Steam Deck Unsupported Games: 181 (18.1 %)
- Rating TBC: 64 (6.4 %)
If you wonder why it does not add to 100%, it’s because there are 42 titles for which there is no data for some reason (title not available in a specific region, etc.)
Which means we get to 71.3% of titles being either rated as Playable or Verified for the Steam Deck. Overall the figure is very stable from time to time, while we are losing a little share of Verified titles over time.
Rating | January 2024 | August 2024 | May 2025 | Change |
---|---|---|---|---|
Verified | 26.6 | 25.0 | 23.8 | -1.2 |
Playable | 46.9 | 46.0 | 47.5 | + 1.5 |
Unsupported | 21.0 | 19.8 | 18.1 | -1.7 |
Unknown | 5.5 | 9.2 | 6.4 | -2.8 |
It makes sense for multiple reasons. Valve has been caught several times with abusing of the Verified rating (recent example of FF7 Rebirth) and they may have become a little more cautious since then. On top of that, more recent games are more demanding, and even if they run on the Steam Deck, it’s likely that their performance will be worse and worse as time passes. So I would expect the number of Verified titles in % to keep going down progressively.
What’s surprising however is that Valve and their partners manage to keep on top of the Top 1000 games. There are relatively few games that are not yet rated, so their verification process is definitely meeting the needs of most gamers. Well done.
Since the Unknown category causes some variation, let’s look at the actual percentages of claimed compatibility without the Unknown category:
Rating | January 2024 | August 2024 | May 2025 | Change |
---|---|---|---|---|
Verified | 28.1 | 27.5 | 26.6 | -0.9 |
Playable | 49.6 | 50.6 | 53.1 | +2.5 |
Unsupported | 22.2 | 21.8 | 20.2 | -1.6 |
As an example of more demanding games that can’t work well enough to be considered playable on the Steam Deck, there’s Monster Hunter Wilds released in February 2025, and rated as unsupported.
A different situation with Wuthering Waves, a free-to-play Genshin Impact-like game, that has an anti-cheat system that’s not supported. However, the developers are apparently actively working on a solution, which is positive.

- Drive Beyond Horizons, released on Mar 24, 2025 - Playable
Among them is the excellent Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 - I am almost reaching the end, and I will talk about it at length in my upcoming review.
It’s rated as playable on the Steam Deck, and it is indeed just that. The performance is not great, but I was able to spend 6 hours on the later part of the game as I was on the move, and beat several bosses without sweating too much. Expect between 25 to 30 FPS on average on the LCD version. The game is so good that it will make you forgive its low framerate.
Future of Compatibility
Overall, It’s unlikely we will ever seen the compatibility go to 80% with the current generation of devices, but when the Steam Deck 2 releases, I expect to see a bump in such figures, and potentially more support from developers to make it into a real platform to consider supporting beyond the regular PC version. The Switch 2 being more powerful will also bring more developers to consider the viability of games working well on handhelds with a similar performance profile.
