Valve announced that it’s making a white edition of the Steam Deck OLED in limited quantities for the global market. In this poll we wanted to confirm how our audience reacted to this piece of news.

It may look a bit underwhelming at first:

But this is kind of expected. This is typically what you call a commercial innovation, i.e. something that you do to sell more units without changing fundamentally anything to the core product. Of course, it’s only half true in this case - producing a Steam Deck with a different color scheme means that you potentially have to create new molds, as plastics of different color dies do not react in the same way in the molding process.

If you frame it this way, about 15% of folks being interested in this new edition is pretty good. This generates some free PR as well and puts back the Steam Deck in the news cycle, and since it’s a limited edition, it creates an urgency for people to grab it as soon as they can.

But yeah, news about the Steam Deck 2 would be nice at some point.
