POLL: Civilization VII Purchase Intent
This February 2025 has marked a milestone in gaming with the release of Cilization VII. Yes, there’s some level of hyperbole in this statement. Is Civilization just as popular as it has ever been?
To gauge the interest, we asked our audience again through a poll. Civilization VII also comes with a native Linux client, that has to count for something, too.
What to make of these results? Well, 40% of people not interested is one thing, but close to 8% of people who purchased it day 1 is a pretty good indicator of strong interest, especially since there’s a good remaining chunk of folks who plan to eventually buy it, too. Whether or not this is higher than for previous iterations is hard to say, since we don’t have a baseline to compare it with.
The reviews are mixed on Steam in February 2025, with quite a few people not liking the new UI and the concept of Age changes. This may have an impact on the long tail of sales if the developers of Firaxis do not adress such issues. The Age thing is part of the core concept of the new game, so I’m not sure they can do much about it.
Expect an avalanche of DLCs anyway, as usual, to truly have a complete game in the end. Now may be a good time to look at Civilization VI again…
