While there as a gap vs the Windows release (early May 2018) Feral has been pretty fast to release the port on Linux. While I have yet to play it, you can grab it on Feral Store or Steam already. This is a standalone Total War game, while it has a much narrower scope than what you may have been used to before. Now for the requirements to run it:
- Ubuntu 18.04
- 8GB RAM
- 2GB AMD R9 285 or better, 2GB Nvidia 680 or better. Vulkan is required, too.
- For AMD, Mesa 18.0.0 is required, and 18.0.4 is recommended.
- Nvidia graphics cards require driver version 390.59 or later.
I am a little surprised 18.04 has become a requirement since it’s just barely out – not sure everyone has upgraded yet, and 16.04 is supposed to be supported until 2020 as well. As expected we see that Vulkan has become the default API for Feral’s ports – hopefully this will pay off in terms of performance.
It is worth noting that the game has had pretty bad reviews on Steam so far. Most people who do not recommend it seem to be complain about pretty bad AI, a lack of features compared to previous episodes (trade agreements are gone), and overall being too easy. Hopefully I will be able to provide my own opinion to the lot sometimes soon.
The next port from Feral should be Life is Strange: Before the Storm.
