Before The Storm Coming After The Storm

By

The post title is almost a private joke - here in Japan we have just been hit by a huge typhoon, and next week we get “Before The Storm” which is kind of ironic!

It’s been a while since Feral announced it, but the wait is mostly over. Life is Strange: Before The Storm, will be released on Linux (and Mac) next week, on the 13th of September. Life is Strange was an excellent game and I have been quietly waiting to try this one on Linux since Feral mentioned they were going to port it. This is a prequel, where you play Chloe, the other protagonist of Life is Strange.

Now, below are the specs recommended to play BFS when it hits the stores next week:

  • OS: Ubuntu 18.04
  • Processor: Intel Core i3-4130T @ 2.90GHz
  • GPU: 2GB Nvidia GTX 680 or 2GB AMD R9 270 or better
  • System RAM: 4GB
  • Storage: 28GB

Additional release notes:

  • AMD GPUs require Mesa driver 18.1.6, Nvidia cards require driver 396.54 or better.
  • Intel GPUs are not supported at time of release

Interesting that Feral targets 396.54 on Nvidia, which is pretty much the latest driver, yet only a beta driver at this stage. I must admit I am not a fan of this kind of practices, since whatever goes live should by default work with the latest stable version (390.x) of the drivers instead of following the bleeding edge.

Anyway, good news, and let’s hope Feral continues working on Linux versions even though Proton is now a real alternative for newer games.
