Valve Opens Steam Deck Repair Centers, But No Clear Word on the Fan Warranty Coverage

A small update regarding the Steam Deck. Valve does not expect you to rely on iFixit anymore to get your hardware problems sorted out with the Steam Deck. They are now opening actual repair centers (apparently in different geographies, while we lack details).

Once there, our team will diagnose the device, repair if needed, then ship the fixed unit back to you. Repairs for issues covered by warranty are free of charge. If a Steam Deck comes in that is not covered by warranty, our team will reach out and offer to repair the device for a fee (if a repair is possible). This out-of-warranty repair service is completely optional, and you can ask for your device back if you prefer.

Apparently the only way to get in touch with a potential repair center is to get started by reporting your issue directly on the support website: https://help.steampowered.com/wizard/HelpWithSteamDeck.

steam deck repair and what about the fans

In the meantime, on iFixit, the most popular part ordered by end users is… the fan.

That’s the only thing missing from this announcement from Valve. Are noisy fans covered by the warranty? Is the fan problem completely gone from all shipped units out there? We know some units have been replaced when customers complained but there’s no official policy as of now.
